This is a 1974 Peugeot UE-18 Mixte in Yellow with Black Decals. It is a 21″ / 53  cm / Medium (center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube) lugged Steel frame with a steel fork that has chromed ends. The stand over height is 25″ directly in front of the saddle.

There are 12 speeds available through the alloy Stronglight 49D two ring crank set and the 6 gear freewheel.

The rear derailleur is a Shimano and the front is also a Shimano.  Shifting is through the original downtube mounted Simplex friction shifters.

Both wheels are alloy Araya rims laced to alloy high flange hubs. The rear wheel is nutted and the front is quick release. Both wheels have brand new 27″ x 1 3/8″ Touring blackwall tires.

Braking is handled by alloy Mafac Racer centerpyll brakes with white brake levers.

The original black vinyl sprung Gallery saddle is mounted to a chrome seat post that moves freely in the seat tube.

The alloy stem still retains the Peugeot emblem in the back and the chrome upright handlebars have their original white grips.

The stainless steel fenders are original, as is the Soubitez bottle generator with front (yellow) and rear lights, which work. The original chrome rear rack is also present. These were all installed by the factory as this was the ‘Touring’ model of the regular Mixte frame.

The bicycle rides, turns, stops and shifts through all of the gears and rings.

This bicycle was in the same family since new and was well taken care of. The paint is still glossy and it retains it’s original equipment. The original plastic Simplex derailleurs we’re replaced with reliable Shimano derailleurs. The heavy chrome steel crankset was replaced with a lighter and nicer looking French Stronglight alloy crankset with Lyotard pedals and it has 6 gears at the rear instead of the original 5 speed Maillard freewheel. The original chromed steel wheels were replaced with lighter period correct alloy wheels. The tires are also wider than the original 1 1/4″ tires.
