This is a 1984 Motobecane Jubilee Sport in Silver Blue with Dark Blue Lettering. It is a 23″ / 58 cm / Large (center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube) Internal Brazed Columbus Cro-Mo Steel frame with a chrome steel fork.  The stand over height is 33″ directly in front of the saddle. 

There are 12 speeds available through the Nervar alloy two ring (52/42t) crankset and the Maillard Helicomatic 6 gear (13-28t) freehub. The pedals are alloy Maillard CXC with Christophe chrome toe cages and black leather Motobecane branded straps.

The rear derailleur is a Suntour ARX and the front is also a Suntour ARX. Shifting is through Downtube Mounted Suntour Friction Shifters.

Both wheels are Wolber Super Champion Gentleman 81 polished alloy rims drilled for Presta valves laced to Maillard alloy hubs with quick release. Both wheels have brand new 27″x1 1/8″ black wall tires with brand new rim strips and tubes.

Braking is handled by Motobecane branded Weinmann 506 Sidepulls with quick release. The brake levers are alloy Weinmann levers. The rear brake cable is routed internally through the top tube.

The original black vinyl San Marco saddle is mounted to an alloy seat post that moves freely in the seat tube. 

Chrome Atax handlebars with the original brown faux leather Hutchinson handlebar wraps and brake hoods are mounted to an alloy stem. The stem is NOT frozen in the steerer tube.

The original front and rear reflectors are present and there is an alloy bottle cage mounted to the downtube.

The bicycle rides, turns, stops and shifts through all of the gears and rings as it should.

This is a very well preserved Motobecane. I bought it from the original owner who never rode it that much. It is an extremely French bicycle from the next to the last year that Motobecane was in business as a French Manufacturer. The frame was assembled using what Motobecane referred to as ‘Inexternal Brazing’, which meant that the tubes were brazed from the inside instead of using external lugs and brazing from the outside. Peugeot and Gitane also used this method of frame building in the late 80’s. It also has the Helicomatic rear hub which uses the coolest cassette removal tool consisting of a very small wrench to remove the nut, a spoke wrench at the other end and a built in bottle opener so you can quench your thirst. It allowed the rider to carry different cassettes with different ratios if they were going to be riding in different terrain on the same day. The tool and cassettes are still available on Ebay. The skinny Wolber rims were originally meant to have even thinner 1″ tires, but as that is not the fashion these days, I installed the widest 27″ tires that would fit. The lovely Nervar crankset and Maillard platform pedals with Christophe Toe Cages complete the French componentry. Fortunately, Motobecane was an early adopter of Japanese components, so it has a nice set of Suntour derailleurs. The only blemish is a small scrape in the paint on the top of the top tube.  Claimed weight of 23.1 lbs which is still a very respectable weight.

For less than the price of a generic Bike Shaped Object that anyone might buy online or from a store that sells bicycles in the Toy Department, you could be riding this vintage bicycle with quality components. The fact that it is still rolling down the road is a testament to how well it was built.
